Amidst growing calls for Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane to be removed from office, the Organization Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) has reiterated that the embattled advocate is not suitable for her position.
This comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA) claimed that they have submitted over 7000 papers of "evidence" to Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Thandi Modise, to strengthen their motion in Parliament to remove Mkhwebane from office. OUTA's spokeswoman on the matter Advocate Stefanie Fick was speaking on The Special Focus this week when she pointed out that investigations by Mkhwebane weren't conducted properly, as has been affirmed by scathing court judgements against the Public Protector. "If you objectively look at her conduct during her investigations, the only conclusion you could come to is that she should be removed." When asked if "incompetent" was a suitable description of Mkhwebane as critics have labelled her, Fick said: "Everyone can't agree. Let's have a rational debate on the facts and not [on] feelings. I've heard before that Advocate Thuli Madonsela also made mistakes. Of course Advocate Mkhwebane can make mistakes [because] we're all human. But it is the quality of the mistakes in her case that speaks volumes." Listen to the full discussion here:
